**Getting comfortable in the uncomfortable.** It’s a phrase from mental training that I find myself coming back to more and more.

As a professional coach and mental performance trainer, I work with leaders every day. One of the biggest challenges I see in leadership today isn’t a lack of information.

It’s **uncertainty.**

We have more data, more perspectives, and more tools for analysis than ever before.  
And yet, making well-informed decisions may be harder than it has ever been. Why?

Because the world around us is changing faster than our ability to make sense of it.

AI. Geopolitical uncertainty. Economic shifts. Talent and skills shortages. Changing expectations from employees and customers.

A decision that made sense yesterday may need to be reconsidered tomorrow. And that’s where I believe an increasingly important leadership capability comes into play:

**Being able to stay grounded in uncertainty.**

It’s not about having all the answers.  
It’s not about always feeling confident.  
It’s about being able to stay present when things feel uncertain.  
To make decisions without having all the information.   
To say “I don’t know” without feeling that you’ve lost credibility.  
To change course when new information emerges, without seeing it as failure.  
And perhaps most importantly, to not let our need for certainty keep us from moving forward.

To me, mental strength isn’t about eliminating uncertainty.  
**It’s about developing the ability to think clearly and act wisely in the face of it.**

That’s something I’m seeing more and more in my conversations with leaders.  
We can’t always control how uncertain the world around us is.

**But we can develop how we respond to it.**

So perhaps the question isn’t:  
“How can I become more certain about my decisions?”  
But rather:  
**“How can I get better at making good decisions when certainty isn’t an option?”**

I believe that is becoming one of the defining capabilities of modern leadership.
